For 12 years now, the Award has successfully made public the many new ideas. As every year, the “Pro Carton Young Designers Award 2014“ presented two winners and four finalists. At the award ceremony, packaging winner Feldhofer said: “This award proves that my idea has been well accepted. I believe the award will continue in the future and this motivates me to carry on.” Many of the students’ lecturers also attended, with many of them being experienced designers in their own right.
As always, the jury consisted of leading experts from the various sectors of the Supply Chain:
- Satkar Gidda, Sieberthead (Design; chairman of the jury)
- Stan Akkermans, Mars (Branded Products)
- Martin Luh, Nestlé (Branded Products)
- Geert Verlinden, Van Genechten (Packaging Industry)
Satkar Gidda on the work of the jurors: It is a great pleasure to say that the jurors were not disappointed in a single case. This year we again saw some real eye-openers with well thought-out concepts. We were also impressed by the details considered by the students, with many including graphic design to highlight their ideas.”
The reward for the award winners: a special week of training in the fields of packaging design, marketing, sales and retail. The certificates and trophies were presented by Pro Carton President Roland Rex and chairman of the jury, Satkar Gidda. All finalists also received certificates.

Comments by the young designers
“Today, there are many designers creating fantastic designs, and therefore I am very happy to be able to design something that people would like to purchase. It is also very positive for my career to be able to show something that is not only smart but can also sell on the market. I hope that the success at the Pro Carton Young Designers Award will help me in finding an interesting job. It will certainly encourage me to work on ideas that are special, that are different, even if they may be difficult to implement.” Alisa Feldhofer
“For me, it was always important to support the environment and Nature. I hope that my idea will add something positive. “Save the bug” is easy to make and easy to handle and could help many people as well as saving many insects. I hope that the Award can support my career internationally. I am proud and happy that my design was recognized by such an important jury. Maybe I can reach my ambitions with the help of Pro Carton and turn “Save a Bug” into a real project and product. I would like to make peoples’ lives easier while at the same time saving as many insects as possible and helping Nature and the environment.” Marie-Sophie Fischer
“This competition was exciting and great fun. It was my first opportunity to present one of my ideas to a broader public. I think that taking part in the Pro Carton Young Designers Award will be an important reference for my work and am delighted to have been invited to the ECMA Pro Carton Congress. We will see what the future has in store for us. I really enjoyed working on this project. It was exciting to create an idea with cartonboard and am very happy that others appreciated my idea.” Miriam Derler
“The Pro Carton Young Designers Award was an exciting experience. Winning the Award would have been a distinction for my creativity and a good reference for my future career.” Reinhart Glöckl
