IceBox, the winning design in the Food category from Mondi Grünburg, is a promising concept for transporting temperature-sensitive or chilled foods and beverages. By retaining its 100% recyclable character, the packaging uses a special paper surface treatment – Mondi’s Paratherm® barrier solution – which enhances the performance of the corrugated box for use in cooling and freezing conditions. As a result, it supports the cooling effect of ice packs or crushed ice and retains any meltwater, offering end customers an opportunity to enjoy a cold beverage or snack on-the-go.Queen Display, the winning design in the Point of Sale category, designed by Mondi Tire Kutsan, is an innovative and environmentally-friendly concept for the floriculture sector. Queen display prevents damage to delicate flowers during shipment and also works as an attractive display solution at point of sale. This way the corrugated packaging fulfils two different functions. In addition to eliminating flower waste during shipment, the packaging uses 51% less material when compared to standard options.
Jan Blankiewicz, Product Innovation Manager, at Mondi Corrugated Packaging, commented: “We are proud that two of our designs received acknowledgment from the international jury at the WorldStar Awards 2017 as they underline the potential of paper-based material in developing innovative packaging solutions. For us this award is a proof of our passion for developing cutting-edge solutions in a sustainable way.”
In addition to these reputable awards, Mondi Grünburg has won two other competitions this year for packaging design excellence – Wellpappe Austria Awards and Austrian State prize “Smart Packaging”. For Mondi Tire Kutsan the WorldStar Award 2017 is its third this year, following successes at the competitions organized by Turkish Packaging Manufacturers Association (ASD) and CEVKO Foundation earlier this year.
WorldStar Awards is an outstanding international packaging competition held annually by the World Packaging Organization (WPO) and its aim is to recognize packaging solutions focusing on design, technology and functionality. This year over 291 packaging projects, from 35 countries, entered the WorldStar Awards 2017. The winners will be honoured in an awards ceremony and gala evening on 4 May 2017 in Dusseldorf as part of the Interpack 2017 exhibition.
