City Press Expands Digital Printing Capabilties with HP Indigo, Completing Installation of the HP Indigo 18K Value Pack

City Press has announced the installation of the new HP Indigo 18K Value Pack, marking a significant expansion of its HP Indigo offering and reinforcing its commitment to print innovation in Central Canada. This upgrade transitions City Press from its initial HP Indigo 15K installation (October 2024) to full HP Indigo 18K value pack, unlocking new levels of automation, substrate versatility and nonstop productivity for customers. HP Indigo’s offering enables City Press to focus on offset migration and drive new business growth by offering new capabilities to its customers.

Nick Giesbrecht, President, City Press, said “Upgrading from the HP Indigo 15K to the HP Indigo 18K capabilities, we have transformed how we plan for the future. Our primary goal is to expand the gamut of substrates we can print on and increase our digital capacity to take on more small offset jobs, running them quickly and efficiently with outstanding quality".

Founded in 1932, City Press offers a variety of services designed to provide the most efficient and economical solution to meet the needs of every print job. Installing the HP Indigo 15K — now enhanced with the HP Indigo 18K Value Pack — means City Press can provide quicker turnarounds, especially for short runs, and expand into new, high-value applications such as premium white, four-colour digital foils, and thicker substrates up to 24-point. Print jobs previously delivered through offset, such as traditional presentation folders, can now run more cost-effectively at lower quantities, enabling City Press to serve new and emerging customer segments.

HP Indigo’s Digital Presses provide cutting-edge solutions designed for high-quality, versatile, and efficient digital printing. With the HP Indigo 18K Value Pack, City Press now benefits from enhanced media handling, improved automation, AI-supported tools, and HP’s next-generation print quality management capabilities — all part of HP’s vision for nonstop digital printing. Through HP Indigo’s Liquid Electrophotography (LEP) technology, 7-colour printing, and expanded substrate range, the upgraded system enables true offset-calibre results while accelerating production speeds.

Maximizing workflows and output quality allows City Press to meet a broad range of customer demands, improve efficiencies, diversify product offerings, maintain sustainable print solutions and deliver operational excellence that stands out against competitors. The company also expects sustainability improvements through reduced setup waste, as more jobs transition from offset to digital.

Nick Giesbrecht, President, City Press, said “Upgrading from the HP Indigo 15K to the HP Indigo 18K capabilities, we have transformed how we plan for the future. Our primary goal is to expand the gamut of substrates we can print on and increase our digital capacity to take on more small offset jobs, running them quickly and efficiently with outstanding quality. The ability to print foil-board, up to 24-point, with premium white, opens entirely new revenue opportunities for us. HP has shown real dedication to the print industry, and we’re excited to be the first printer in Winnipeg to bring B2 digital printing to our customers.”

"We are delighted to work with City Press to install the HP indigo 15K and HP Indigo 18K to its production floor. This digital press is guaranteed to deliver print jobs with a faster turnaround time and offer new capabilities to City Press customers. We look forward to working with City Press into 2026,” said Scott Archer, AMS HP Industrial Commercial Director of Sales, HP.
City Press also plans to maximize productivity, by implementing HP’s PrintOS software alongside its HP Indigo offerings. The print production operating system will maximize production productivity and automate workflows.

Elsewhere, HP xRServices with HoloLens will maintain uptime and productivity on press, ensuring operators have real time access to virtual support, and streamlines maintenance workflows in the process. Together, the combination of the software eliminates manual pre-press work, enabling City Press to handle even more jobs with precision and speed.
